Biography
Winston Wu is a Research Scientist at Pharmaco-Kinesis Corp where he is working on smart drug delivery systems involving wireless implant medical devices. He received the B.S. degree from San Francisco State University, CA, in 2002, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), in 2005 and 2008, respectively, all in electrical engineering. He was a recipient of the interdisciplinary National Institute of Health/National Library of Medicine fellowship award for 5 years. His PhD project at UCLA involved research and development of wireless sensing systems for remote patient monitoring and guidance. He led a team of multidisciplinary researchers to develop the first-of-its-kind SmartCane System to prevent geriatric patients from falling. For this project, he received a Best Paper Award at Bodynets 2008. The successful completion of his Ph.D. thesis led to a wireless patient monitoring testbed, which became a valuable research tool for scientists at UCLA Wireless Health Institute. He has published 10 technical papers, including 2 journal articles. He is currently the Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine and on the editorial boards of Journal of Information Technology Research and Journal of Biomechanics.
