Area of Expertise: Neuro-Oncology and Immunotherapy for Brain Tumors
Dr. John H. Sampson completed medical school in Canada and was then recruited to the Duke University Neurosurgery Residency Program. After completing the residency program, he was asked to stay on as a senior staff member in the Division of Neurosurgery and worked in the neurosurgical portion of the Neuro-Oncology Program at the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center before becoming associate deputy director of the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke.
Dr. Sampson is recognized for developing vaccines that work by enlisting the assistance of the immune system in fighting off brain cancer cell growth. He has published pre‐clinical and clinical data suggesting that vaccines may be very useful in the fight against brain tumors.
