PHARMACO-KINESIS AND WILLOWVIBE, LLC SIGN AGREEMENT FOR JOINT DEVELOPMENT OF PAIN ABATEMENT DEVICE
Prototype to be Completed in Q1 of 2011
INGLEWOOD, CALIFORNIA, August 19, 2010 – Pharmaco-Kinesis Corporation (PKC), an advanced medical device company developing smart local drug delivery systems, today reported completion of an agreement with Willowvibe, LLC to develop a non-invasive pain abatement system.
The new system, to be called the Micro Kinetic Egress System, or MKE Wand, is designed to reduce pain perception associated with needle sticks, minor surgeries, and laser dermatology treatments. The MKE Wand will be used for pain control with cosmetic laser therapies, as well as Botox® administration for cosmetic treatments and vascular headaches. This advanced device utilizes the Gate Control Theory of Pain to override subjective experiences of discomfort by providing input in the form of temperature (heat and cold) and tactile (vibration, shape, and texture) sensation to the patient's skin.
In return for 15% ownership of Willowvibe, PKC's Technical Team has developed the concept and assisted in the filing of a patent on this unique, non-invasive, pain abatement device. In addition, PKC will be developing a functional prototype of the Willowvibe as a work-for-hire project starting in Q3 2010, bringing significant revenue to PKC. The functional prototype is planned for completion in Q1 of 2011.
Diabetics on an insulin injection regime and children who fear inoculations can greatly benefit from this patent-pending proprietary technology. With millions of people suffering through painful injections every day, the market for this first-of-its-kind device is immense.
"The Willowvibe device now under development by PKC will provide newfound relief and comfort to patients," said Frank Adell, CEO of PKC. "We believe that by eliminating or greatly reducing fear of pain in the doctor's office, this device will also cause patients to more often seek the care they need. PKC's partial ownership of Willowvibe will ensure revenue far into the future, while our work-for-hire fees provide immediate income to the Company," said Mr. Adell.
PKC's work with Willowvibe is just one example of how PKC is implementing new ideas and revenue streams. "PKC is pursuing several projects to take advantage of new opportunities and partnerships in order to maximize shareholder value," Mr. Adell concluded.
The PKC R&D team is engaged product development for commercialization of novel smart local drug delivery technologies and advanced devices to measure biological responses.
