PKC AND USC ENTER AGREEMENT TO STUDY THE EFFICACY OF AVASTIN ON BRAIN TUMORS
INGLEWOOD, CALIFORNIA, June 23, 2008 – Pharmaco-Kinesis Corporation is pleased to announce that it has entered into a research agreement with Thomas Chen, M.D. of the Department of Neurosurgery, at the University of Southern California for the evaluation of local intratumoral delivery of Bevacizumab (Avastin™) in small animal models with brain cancer.
The purpose of the study is to determine the feasibility and importance of local delivery of currently administered intravenous chemotherapeutic agents such as Avastin™ that have well known systemic side-effects, but have proven efficacy in clinical trials for brain tumors. If successful, these studies will highlight the importance of Pharmaco-Kinesis’ mission to develop specialized techniques for local delivery of chemotherapeutic and biological agents in an effort to add another important dimension to the adjunct treatment of cancer.
Avastin™ is the trademark for the blockbuster drug developed, manufactured and marketed in the United States by Genentech (NYSY: DNA). Avastin™ has received FDA approval for colorectal, lung and breast cancer and is marketed outside the United States by Roche.
